SKETCH COMEDY

Ferda [Sesame] boys

“The wordplay was great … and the characters really came out [in the writing].”

Ferda [Sesame] Boys is a sketch comedy series that celebrates trans joy through unpretentious, goofy absurdist humour. Think of it as a transmasc Kids in the Hall with the witty wordplay of Letterkenny and Fleabag’s honest, intimate asides to the audience. The result is a collection of skits packed with rapid-fire humor, physical comedy, and a silly exploration of masculinity.

The sketches dive into the absurdities of gender performance with wit, warmth, and a healthy dose of slapstick, from sentient packers with criminal tendencies to magical “passing pants” that spark chaotic custody battles, to awkward consults with overly inclusive doctors to the secret gym training regimens of “Dick Day.”

Initially focused on my own transmasc experience, Ferda [Sesame] Boys was originally, well, for the boys — those who inject testosterone, which is often suspended in sesame oil. The project has evolved through feedback from diverse audiences, particularly transmasc comedians. It now explores masculinity’s complexities for both trans and cis men—from concerns about toxic behavior to navigating traditional norms and conformity anxieties—while celebrating positive aspects like male bonding.

I’ve been writing and developing the series since early 2024 with funding from the Canada Council for the Arts. After a successful live table reading in March 2025, featuring five transmasc actors and a guided audience discussion, the project is now moving into production. Once filmed, the series will be shared as short video capsules on social media, be hosted online, and premiered as a live film screening in Montreal.

“I really love how it shows non-trans guys being confused but also supportive at the same time. It’s a type of relationship that I don’t [often] see in media.”

Skit descriptions

  • A transmasc shopper trying on a harness accidentally unleashes his rogue, sentient packer in a sex shop, leading to a chaotic chase and a hint at the packer’s mischievous criminal past.
  • Two gym buddies fend off unsolicited advice from overbearing gym bros, only to flip the script with an increasingly absurd and hilarious debate about the mechanics and training regimens for Dick Day.
  • A cis man tries to outdo his transmasc roommate’s physical changes from testosterone by resorting to absurd antics like gluing on hair and wearing muscle padding, all while awkwardly trying to hide his jealousy.
  • An infomercial parody for a product to teach you to “Walk Like A Man!™” promises to transform transmasc confidence by teaching a manly stride.
  • An inexperienced guy worries about his packer getting in the way during a Grindr hookup, only to discover his date has a much bigger issue – a weirdly intimate relationship with his own “lucky” packer that keeps finding its way into their makeout session.
  • A trans man visits a doctor for abdominal pain, only to be met with overly “inclusive” and inappropriate questions about his surgeries and anatomy, leading to an awkward and comical examination.
  • Two transmasc best friends discover a magical pair of “passing pants” that guarantee social affirmation wherever they go, sparking an escalating and chaotic custody battle over who gets to wear them.
  • A grumpy trans man’s attempt to discreetly clean up a disastrous menstrual cup mishap in a shared office bathroom spirals into chaos when a jovial coworker mistakenly recruits him into a secret menstrual blood cult.

“It’s normalizing [the notion of] gender euphoria and gender dysphoria for cis men.”
